Networks and Communication in Byzantium

The European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (EKBMM), as part of its activities aimed at studying, preserving, and promoting Byzantine heritage monuments, which serve as evidence of its cultural radiance, organizes a series of online lectures for the public on the theme: Networks and Communication in Byzantium. These lectures will cover various aspects of knowledge and cultural networks that developed in the Byzantine Empire, extended beyond, reflecting various processes in the formation of material and intellectual life. The key points and regional connections of these networks can map the relationships among major, medium, and smaller centers, the region, as well as how these relationships influence the functioning of state administration and ecclesiastical organization, human and commodity movements, the transmission of ideas, the dissemination of knowledge and technology, and the dissemination of artistic trends.
Byzantinologists from Greece, Cyprus and Turkey will participate and present the findings of their researches on the specific topics.
