International Conference: Mo.Na: Monuments in Nature: A Creative Co-existence. 7-9 July 2021, Athens

The European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (EKBMM) organized the international Conference “Mo.Na: Monuments in Nature: A Creative Co-existence”, in the framework of the Mo.Na project, funded by INTERREG V – Balkan – Mediterranean 2014-2020.

The hybrid Conference took place in Athens, on July 7-9, 2021, at the Amphitheater of the Directorate for Documentation and Protection of Cultural Property (33 Ag. Asomaton, Thiseio), with in presence for the speakers and via online platform for the public. The topics of the Conference concerned issues about protection and management of areas of high environmental interest (Natura 2000, Ramsar areas) with monuments and archeological sites of the highest cultural importance (UNESCO), the role of spatial planning in the protection of natural and cultural heritage and issues of co-management of the marine environment with underwater cultural monuments. In addition, problems such as the effects of Climate Change and Tourism on monuments and the environment were presented. The conference contributed to the dialogue on the holistic management of the monument and the natural environment.
