E.K.B.M.M. undertook with great pleasure the conservation of 26 icons from the Icon Gallery of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. During July and August of the same year, a team of specialized conservators of antiquities and works of art traveled to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, where the conservation work on the icons took place.
More specifically, the icons were cleaned of dust and surface deposits, including the reverse sides of the panels. All metal revetments and the additional wooden elements were removed together with their nails. The wooden support and the painted surface were consolidated. The existing varnish was removed using appropriate solvents, and localized mechanical cleaning was carried out to remove residues of wax and glue. Furthermore, where necessary, chromatic reintegration was performed and a new varnish was applied to the front surface of the icons.
