Regarding the memorandum of cooperation, which was signed by the President of the Board of Directors of the Center for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments, Professor of Byzantine Archeology AUTH Mrs. Natalia Poulou and the former Minister of North Macedonia Mrs. Irena Stefoska in 2021, the EKBMM undertook the implementation of a conservation study about the frescoes of the Byzantine church of St. Georgios in Kurbinovo (1191) and carrying it out, funded by the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.

As the project is in the final stage of its implementation, on Thursday, November 3, 2023, an on-site visit by a delegation of the EKBMM took place, led by the President, Professor Natalia Poulou, and the members of the Board of Directors, Emerita Director of Antiquities, Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Mrs. Eugenia Gerousi, Head of the Directorate of Documentation and Protection of Cultural Goods, Hellenic Ministry of Culture, Mrs. Vasiliki Papageorgiou, Assistant Professor of Byzantine Archeology AUTH, Mr. Anastasios Tantsis and Head of the Department of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Antiquities and Museums, Ephorate of Antiquities of the city of Athens, Mrs. Argyro Karaberidis, as well as the Director of EKBMM, Mrs. Flora Karagianni.

First, the delegation visited the Institute for Protection of Cultural Monuments and Museum in Bitola and had a conversation with its Director, Mrs. Meri Stoyanova, about the progress of the project. Afterwards, the delegation conducted an on-site inspection at the church of St. George in Kurbinovo, where they faced the impressive results of the conservation works, aimed at preserving and showcasing the frescoes of the monument with the utmost respect to their historical and aesthetic significance and the primary principle of minimal intervention.

Throughout the visit the delegation was accompanied by the Consul of Greece in the city of Bitola, Mr. Alexandros Vidouris. During the meeting confirmed a very positive and highly effective collaboration between both sides, and the willingness of both to continue working together for the preservation and promotion of this significant Byzantine monument.
